Local, natural stone is the choice for new development built to Passivhaus standards

Rosemoor, located in the scenic Devon countryside, is a development of eight eco homes in Ipplepen by Belfield Developments. Built to Passivhaus standards and Bau Biologie principles, these homes feature high-quality materials such as natural local stone, timber cladding, and white painted render.

Architects, Gale & Snowdon, redesigned the project to modernise local styles using building forms, materials, and details. The design aims for low embodied energy, low operational energy, and healthy building principles. It seeks to create an identity that reflects Ipplepen's character through traditional materials and sympathetic building forms, blending with the village's grain.

The developers, Belfield Developments, and architect firm, Gale & Snowden, recently won the award for Partnership award for Rosemoor at the 2024 Exeter Property Awards. The judges said “A beautifully executed collaboration on the one-of-a-kind Rosemoor Development. Belfield worked closely with leading architectural design studio, Gale & Snowden. Model partnership.”

We supplied over 55 tonne of our Purbeck Ragstone guillotine cut building stone. It is a neutral stone with brown and grey colours that contains a lot of fossilised shell and looks good anywhere. It is used on projects throughout the South West and is an excellent match for a number of historic building stones, such as Forest Marble, which can sometimes be difficult to source.
