Lovell Purbeck carries out quarrying and processing operations in Langton Matravers, near Swanage in Dorset. We extract stone from three different sites, enabling us to offer the full range of Purbeck stone, and making us the largest supplier of Purbeck building stone in the UK.
The Somerset Lias quarry situated at Bowden’s Lane in Langport produces white, grey and blue lias. Our onsite production facilities allow us to produce over 15,000 square metres of lias building stone per year.
Our Hurdcott quarry near Barford Saint Martin in Wiltshire is one of the last greenstone quarries remaining in the country. Dimensional block, which is suitable for ashlar and masonry, is extracted as well as building stone.
Chilmark & Chicksgrove
The Chicksgrove & Chilmark quarry is situated close to Tisbury, Wiltshire, and are the only active sources of Chilmark stone in the UK. The stone is a fine grained creamy white limestone from the upper Portland series and is nationally renowned as one of the country’s finest building stones.
Hartham Park Bath Stone
Hartham Park Bath stone is a fine grained, high quality and resilient limestone from the Jurassic period. It consists of micritic ooids in a matrix with small shells, and is medium grain without any clay elements being present. Hartham Park Bath Stone is one of the most iconic stones in the UK and it weathers beautifully.
